FIU Scholarships for international students provide help to graduates from FIU to get their degrees with some financial aid. These scholarships are usually by merit, given to scholars based on their academic performances and achievements.

Host Nationality: Florida International University

Florida International University (FIU) is a metropolitan public research university in Greater Miami, Florida. FIU has two major campuses in Miami-Dade County, with its main campus in University Park.

It is a research university with the highest research activity by the Carnegie Foundation and a research university according to the Florida Legislature.

As one of Florida’s primary graduate research universities, FIU belongs to the 12-campus State University System of Florida and awards over 3,400 graduate and professional degrees annually.

The initial vision of FIU was to build a public university in Miami, as an institution that could help create an opportunity for such a growing city. 50 years later, the vision created a top-ranked research university based on the a Carnegie Foundation System.

Doctoral Scholarship:

This is one of the scholarships available at  FIU. It is also a merit-based award to students who stand-out academically. For you to be eligible for this award, you must have to make an average of 4.0 with a 27 in the ACT or 1280 in the SAT exam.

Moreso, only student who are American citizens or with permanent residence are eligible, but then, students on F-1 visas may apply.

Scholarship Worth:

This FIU Scholarship grants 75% of all tuition fees and covers students’ textbooks. Applicants must register before November 1st. Learn more about this scholarship here.

SGA Scholarship for Medical Students:

Medical students at the FIU can apply for this scolarship. To qualify, you must have an average of 3.3 in your degree. In addition, you should be a full time student at the university with a good standing in character and learning.

A good leadership skill is also expected of a prospective scholar along with a letter of recommendation outlining them.

If you are interested, remember that all applicantions must be submitted by October 14th. The winner of the award will receive $ 1,000.

FIU Scholarships for Internatinal Students-NACME Engineering Scholarship

The National Council of Action for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) foundede this scholarship. The motive behind this scholarship is to encourage more of the minority students into the field of engineering. You must have to make at least 2.9 points on average to be eligible for the award.

You must also be a full-time student of FIU with a degree in Engineering to be eligible. The award targets applicants with a financial need.

Eligible students should come from the minority (African-American, Indian or Hispanic) and must be residents or citizens of the United States.

This is one of the FIU scholarships for international students that is renewable provided the candidates maintain the eligibility criteria.

The sum of $ 2,000 is awarded in this scholarship per year for the fall and spring semesters. This funding can be renewed for up to five years without a new application.

The next line of action after recieving funding is to submit an updated curriculum vitae and participate in mentor-sponsored research.

Number of Awards:

The number of awards offered changes every year. You need to do due diligence in your application. Remember that academic admissions scholarships are highly competitive with less than 10 percent of the incoming class will receiving a scholarship.

Application Requirements for FIU Scholarships

  • You must meet the academic criteria for any of the scholarships discuused.
  • You must be a newly admitted FIU student.
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation.
  • Write a good essay.

The last day for submission of FIU Scholarships application is 1st of May.
